Gift from God

From Lisa: For the last 10 days I have been sick. Very, very sick. The kind of sick where you don’t leave your bed; you miss work; you live on soup, broth, crackers and ginger ale; you check out. So it may seem fake or contrived when I tell you that I have felt so blessed, but it’s true.

I am typically a very high energy, go-getter who hardly sits down from 6:00 am to 9:30 pm. I’m always shoving a million things into my day and have been told that I accomplish a months worth of projects in a week. I give 150% at work, cook, clean, manage my household, serve at church and am always there for my friends, family and neighbors. Go, go, go and I LOVE it.

But the truth is that I almost never allow myself to relax and when I do it has a short time limit. Very seldom do I just veg in solitary for a good length of time. That is why I have felt blessed this week. It’s as if God said, “Lisa, it’s time to rest.” And so I did.

As a matter of fact, thanks to my daughter waiting on me, I didn’t leave my bedroom for 4 days. I dozed in and out of sleep, watched movies and shows on Netflix. I listened to books on audible and planned out several fun home projects pertaining to my personal space. For 4 glorious days I did not work. I did not do chores. I did not run errands. I wasn’t capable of serving others. I basically dropped off the radar. And you know what? It was just what I needed.

While I don’t wish illness on any of you, if you find yourself held up in bed……soak it in for all it’s worth. Allow your body and soul to refresh and regenerate. And count your blessings.
